12th Combat Aviation Brigade
Mission

1st Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment (Attack Battalion) provides U.S. Army Europe and Africa with a ready and lethal combat aviation force, capable of rapidly projecting forces across the U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command areas of responsibility in support of designated plans to assure allies and partners, deter aggression, and if necessary, defeat near peer-adversaries.

COL Ryan Kendall graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1999 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Aviation Branch.

COL Kendall’s assignments include: Assistant Squadron S3, 3-6 CAV, Camp Humphreys, Korea; Platoon Leader, R Troop, 3d ACR, Fort Carson, CO; Brigade HHT Commander, 21st Cavalry Brigade, Fort Cavasos, TX; Air Cavalry and AVIM Troop Commander, 4th Squadron, 3d ACR, Fort Cavasos, TX; Executive Assistant and Joint Exercise Planner, USCENTCOM J-7, MacDill AFB, FL; Squadron S3, 7-17 CAV and Brigade S3, 159th CAB, Fort Campbell, KY; Military Fellow on the Chief of Staff’s Strategic Studies Group, Alexandria, VA; Squadron Commander, 2-6 CAV, 25th CAB, Wheeler, AAF, HI; and most recently as the Deputy Director, Directorate on Concepts, at Army Futures and Concepts Center in Austin, TX.

COL Kendall’s education includes a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Colorado, Denver.

His military education includes the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Career Course, Intermediate Level Education and Senior Service College as well as Air Assault School and Airborne School.

COL Kendall has earned awards, decorations, and badges commensurate with his years of service and deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan

COL Kendall is married to his wife of 20 years, Shannon Kendall. They have three children, Aidan (17), Hudson (12), and Marin (10).
